ABSTRACT:

The inhibitive effect of (agar) on the corrosion of mild steel in 1M HCl has been investigated using gravimetric and electrochemical techniques. The percentage inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing the concentration of inhibitor and with decreasing temperature. From both gravimetric and electrochemical experiments, the inhibition efficiency of the agar was found to be in the 92 -98 % range for 1M HCl medium. Galvanostatic study indicates that this compound act as a mixed type corrosion inhibitor. The rate of corrosion of mild steel rapidly increases with temperature over the temperature range of 30?C to 60?C, both in absence and presence of inhibitor. Thermodynamic parameters for adsorption process have been calculated using the Langmuir?s adsorption isotherm.
